Not poopoo.
But more like Poe Poe.
Also know as the Police.
And to be more specific, several detectives.
Over the course of the past couple weeks.
Would you like an explanation?
Instead of all these mini-sentences?
Fine.
I’ll tell you what excitement and drama have happened in my life to involve Chicago Detectives to gather my more intimate details.
So it was Memorial day 2011. The sun was shining, our store estimated a customer count of around 615 people. By 10am we already had about 600 so we knew were under prepared. But we were happy. Big crowds is what we crazy people at Logan Square Starbucks live for. There were long lines, lots of laughter, tons of families, hilarious kids, people smiling because the sun was out.
By 11am we were really getting in the flow of all the customers when a detective came up to our back line and asked for the manager on duty. Me. I figured that a customer had complained about something. We are in a super family oriented neighborhood and sometimes people tie up their dogs on our patio next to other people’s dogs. Every once and a while a big fight between pets breaks out and generally the owners scowl at each other for their poorly trained pet.
So I prepared myself to turn the music down, or kick out terrible owners, or tell someone to stop smoking within 15 feet of our door. Instead, I was told a terrifying story of something that happened to a customer.
A woman with her kiddo in a stroller had been hanging out on our patio about an hour before. There was another customer there hanging out and sipping his coffee while apparently analyzing our guests. She got up to leave and began walking around the blog. He followed her. He got up ahead of her and pulled her into the alley with a stroller. You can imagine what else happened, I won’t go into details. So the sergeant was asking if we remembered this fellow, what he looked like, what she looked like, all these things.
Unfortunately I did remember someone of that description. So the cop and I went back to our office to figure out how we could get him our video feed.
Two days later a couple detectives showed up asking me all sorts of questions about this fellow I recognized and when he was coming back, if he was a regular and all that.
Two days after that another set of detectives came asking the same questions. And told us that it happened to another person the same day. So they wanted more information.
Then the fellow that I thought it might be came around and the detectives, who had been sitting outside our place all week, saw him and confronted him. From what I understand he wasn’t the guy but what drama!
So the cops still come every once and a while. I’m not sure if it’s been finished but I do know they finally released information about it and named our store as the place that it all started so there was a story in the Tribune about it.
My life is always an adventure and there’s nothing like an encounter with the Chicago PD to make the city come alive.
