Love Has Tentacles?

Thursday, August 5th, 2010

I have been known to say “love will find you its tentacles reach far and wide”…in fact I said it for the first time today to my good buddy Nate Cameron who you will meet in a little more than a week b/c we are doing a photo shoot together!

In other news I wanted to let you know a bit about this blog, what it’s for and what you can expect to see and read on here. I’ve recently take up the professional picture taking profession also known as the “Photography.” I’m still pretty new at taking pictures with subjects there for my finger clicking but I’ve been behind a pretty camera for a while. My first experiences with a sweet DSLR was in high school when I became the Editor-in-Chief of the year book for two years. Our professor was adamant about giving students good cameras to catalog their experiences. Growing up in the middle of the Andes gave me added insentive to learn how to take good pics.

So now that we are in the city and we ride public transportation all the time you will see a folder of “The El” pics on our Photos reel. Here is one for you to take a gander at:

They are generally abstract unless I can get someone to give me a full smile like this here fellow. His name is Bryan and he’s a writer. He hands out business cards with his books name on it and a saying on the back: “Smile, it’s contagious.”  I’ll tell you more about him in another post.

I also like taking pictures of people and things in Chicago that stand out to me. One of my more courageous endevours introduced me to this woman:

She is so talented! We were walking down the street on our way to get our first city library cards and Naph saw her drawing this:

He said that’s the stuff that I keep saying I want to take pictures of but never do. I argued and then he dared me to go take a picture of her. Well….I took that dare obviously and am so glad I did. She was such a kind, talented and happy person! It seemed that she was down and out, “an unfortunate” if you will. How ridiculous is that, that someone is so talented, so gifted and isn’t given a fair shake.

Anyways, these are the things I love to photograph. I’m still learning, still gaining confidence, still growing but I’m so glad I have you here to challenge me, affirm me and question me.

More to come always!

PS. We are moving into our own official Chicago home August 16th! Wohoo! I have so much to tell you!
