Well I heard you. I only had a couple people tell me it wouldn’t be worth it to do this Weight Watchers business.

But my sweet sister who had the sweet nephew of mine totally sold me on the whole program today! I’m really excited and will try to begin either next week or the week after that.

I would start sooner but right now I’m the acting manager while my manager gives me some practical experience. It’s totally thrown me for a loop this week and next week there are some more curve balls coming at me which include volunteering for 5 hours on my day off. SO I just want to get my life back into gear and then go for it. I know this sound silly and you are whispering, ” That girl, will she never learn? Life is always Topsy-turvy?” And while I agree with you completely, it’s just a little extra topsy-turvy right now as I wait to find out when I get my own store.

I am relying a lot on this change because then I’ll be writing the schedules and hopefully then it will be a little more predictable…because I’ll have all the control…muahahaha.

In other news, I have lots of pictures (read 3 or 4) from the awesome experience I got to have yesterday meeting Howard Schultz and learning more about this awesome company I work for. I came out of the conference feeling invigorated, renewed, encouraged, and incredibly stressed out about the pressure that is on me as a store manager. I feel like a baton has been passed to me and if I mess up, there will be a lot more at stake than just my job, but rather the reputation of a company that does more than we even are aware. I’ll explain that more on my next post, but I just feel really passionate about this.

Until then, I leave you with this terrible picture of me from 2007:

Here I am holding one of my favorite little girls who is now in Kindergarden! This was in Malaysia in 2007 and these monkey’s were checking me out. I was a little offended. Needless to say E got a little lesson in why it’s not ok for little boys to look up little girls’ skirts.

Goodness.

And my hair was awful short.

And I just found that shirt and put it in the yard sale pile. Which means I’ve had it for over 4 years.

It has lots of holes in it.

But it always made my chest (read sexy tata’s) look good so I never wanted to let it go.

But for the past *ahem* 2 years it has had at this little hole on the right bottom side that keeps getting bigger and bigger and since I don’t live in the poor house it was time to let it go.

It was a sad day.

Why I like My Job

Saturday, November 13th, 2010

Getting up at 2:45am to get to work on time is probably one of the only things I really dislike about working at Starbucks.

But that too comes with it’s rewards.

I know a TON of people who’ve worked for the Bux at some point in their life so I know it’s reputable and obviously something with people will travel far and wide for.

Hubs and I didn’t live close to one for 4 years but would still travel 45 minutes just to get a Mocha. Naphtali even enrolled in the Gold Card Membership to get exclusive deals.

Needless to say when I got the job to be part of the Manager in Training program, it saved us a lot of money.

As I’ve worked for the company a little over 3 months now I can definitely start seeing where I fit with the company, with my individual store, and with my team.

I finally have a job where, despite the fact that we’re simply serving coffee, we are making a difference on people’s days.

Starbucks slogan is making our stores you’re third place. Your first is your home, your second is your job, and we want to be your third. I would say that about 60-80% of our clientele have taken that idea to a literal level. I know over half the people who come in every day and am meeting more and more of our regulars all the time.

And sure, we’re not solving world hunger or anything like that, but especially during the cold winter months, our jobs is to simply satisfy your need for waking up, getting warm and interacting with other humans. We have so many people who come to study (we had girls come in today at 5am and weren’t planning on leaving til 5 or 6pm), a few people run their business from our store (we have a lot of freelance designers and photographers who work from our store), and we have lots of people who just spend their first few waking hours enjoying coffee, a bagel, paper and interaction.

I love coming to work everyday and seeing the regulars. We know about each other’s lives, each other’s people, and when we’re having bad days. we have a couple different people who bring us snacks, and letters of gratitude and we even have one woman who built a whole kids corner with her hubby for our store just because her grandaughter loves to come to our store and here how we talk. Apparently when she goes home she plays Starbucks instead of House.

This year for Halloween we have away free hot chocolate, and although it was ridiculously crazy, we had so much fun and people were talking about it all week.

So even though 2:45 am comes way too quickly, within an hour, my groggy bad attitude turns into stamina for seeing friends all day long!

Thats my jefe John. He’s the bomb.

What I’ve Been Up To Lately

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Well I may not have been online for the past couple weeks but I promise I’ve been rather active. For starters we just moved this week and it’s been awesome. This place is so fantastic and once we get it really put together it’ll be up here for your viewing pleasure.

Last weekend we had a couple come visit us. Ok well they were in the city for their 5 year anniversary and blessed us with spending a little time off from their romantic weekend to hang out with us but we still felt like we were the whole reason they were here.

And as you may or may not be able to see we had the most delicious desert after an extraordinary Thai food experience which I did not photograph.

Yogen Fruz is like my most favorite thing that I was introduced to in Chile, where my husband is from. Right after we moved to the city we found some popular coupon companies: dailydeals.com and groupon.com. So like our third day here I found a coupon from Groupon that was pay $6 for $13 worth of delicious heaven. I saved it for a special moment which arrived this past weekend. So we took the sweet friends of ours to this place and got some treats. It was great, the service was awful which is really annoying because customer service is a big ol’ deal for me…but anyways it was quickly forgotten when I dug into my yogurt concoction of blackberries and rasberries.  So much so that I even forgot to take a picture of the presentation so you could see how awesome it is.

There are still lots more pictures from their time with us but I haven’t had a chance to go through them all. I have had a really crazy week at work, we had some drama so I took on several extra hours and am a sleepy gal!

Oh in the mean time, tomorrow I’ll tell you about the awesome car accident (there were no other cars involved but my own) that I got in…really really exciting I promise.
