Thanksgiving’s Unpredictable Events

Well goodness.

In true blonde girl, pregnant lady, forgetful lady fashion – my Wednesday of cooking didn’t turn out quite like I expected. On my list was a bunch of pies, breads, prepping, etc. Well I got up early, though it was actually as late as my body would let me anyways. This little girl is getting rather restless.

Anyways, I dropped the hubby off at work. Stopped at Target and got some final things I needed for dinner prep….and some things I didn’t, obviously. h headed home and had some Trader Joe’s Waffles since I don’t have my own waffle maker. Let me tell you, I love Trader Joe’s and most of it’s products, but this was a total miss. So I was a little bit sad.

But, I still was thankful.

Anywho, I started my Turkey Brine which I took from PW. I wound up only having a pan that fit about 1-1/2 gallons of water instead of a the full 2 gallons but I think that helped the full flavor of the brine when I finished cooking the bird.

Then I took a break and watched an episode of Monk.

Next I prepped a loaf of bread in my bread machine and let it’s delicious smells eminate my little home. I also got my cheesecake ready. I used my hubby’s sweet momma’s recipe. I was going to take pictures of it all for you and I totally forgot. I have been doing that a lot lately.

Then I watched another episode of Monk.

Then I started another loaf of bread and while filling up the flour bin I had just emptied I dropped the bag of flour on the floor.

I left the flour on the floor for 4 hours and watched an episode of Monk.

Then I prepped a pumpkin pie and a couple pie shells and made mini cheesecakes with the left over filling I had.

Then I watched an episode of Hercule Poirot. I love Agatha Christie, I love BBC, I love mysteries and detective stories. Don’t judge.

Finally I had pretty much everything done and was just chilling out when my hubby got home a whole hour early. He was talking on the phone with his siblings and conference called me in just before he got home.

Then it happened.

I saw a scrap of cheesecake that had fallen on the counter underneath the rack it was resting on. I tipped up the rack ever so slightly to grab it and it’s tempting ways. As I lifted up the rack, while also talking on the phone to my siblings-in-law, I managed to slide the whole cheesecake off the rack, onto the stool and onto the floor.

I didn’t say the best words. I tried to keep them as profoundly un-colorful as I could, and hung up.

CHEESECAKE RUINED.

My sweet hubby always makes the silver lining on the dreary clouds show up. He helped me clean it up, tried to think of ways we could salvage this thing and told me to not worry about it.

The next day came and all the prep was finally done. I had to work most of the day and it was a pretty day so I was rather tired by the time I got home. Still, there was work to be done. SO I worked up the stuffing and the mashed taters and got the croissants and brie working out.

Everyone arrived just in time to really get the party started. The three single boys that came all went above and beyond bringing salads, sauces, veggies, drinks and cakes. The other married couple that came brought the most delicious green beans and bacon, and sweet potatoes.

You know what. We didn’t even eat my pumpkin pie because the one brought by one of the fella’s was so amazing.

God just knew. He just knew.

It was a great evening. We laughed, we talked, the three of the 7 of us who work or had worked for Starbucks told great stories, and we reminisced about the blessings of the last year. But that is all information for a whole other post.

SO the night wasn’t a total disaster, but it was quite an adventure for a pregnant lady to go through.

How was your Thanksgiving? Did you have any catastrophes?
