So I’m not sure you remember but we had a bit of car trouble at the beginning of this blog.
Well if you haven’t followed along, long story short, mechanics in the city take advantage of little girls and famous boys and tell us the job will be too much to fix.
We found out that we needed a new transmission so we took it to the mechanic of a guy we know from church. Today the Hubs went to get the money for the car. Basically the mechanic said it’d be $950 for a whole new transmission (it was a manual. Yeah, I know how to drive a manual!) We were better of selling it to him for the parts. We knew it’d still cost us quite a bit to keep it in the city considering we’ve gotten a total of, um…$500 in tickets. I know, ridiculous right? That’s a whole other rant and rave.
Anywho, we realized with all the certifications and tags and insurance payments not to mention just getting the blasted beast up and running again, it’d just be a better decision to let the mechanic keep it. Well Hubs went over today to get all our stuff out of it and sign over the title, where he was met by four men drinking coffee. Hubs told them he was there to sign the title and they said for him to wait outside while they finished their coffee. Then the guy literally told him that he was going to probably replace it with a cheap transmission….um…what he should have done when we gave him the car to fix in the first place.
FRUSTRATING.
But now we don’t ever have to deal with it again. And making a 300% loss on it was cheaper than all the crap (yeah I said it Ma) we’d be paying before Christmas time. So thank your lucky stars you’ll be getting 1/2 decent presents this year thanks to our lack of a vehicle! Don’t ever go to Walter’s Autobody on the South Side…59th and Kedzie…don’t do it.
Looks like I’ll need to stock up on hand warmers for while I”m waiting on the bus.
In other news my sweet Hubs leaves on quite the little adventure tomorrow morning. He’ll be heading out with Photoside Cafe to do a writing session with a guy from Waterdeep in Nashville. We’re praying this is a super fruitful week for him. The band also scheduled some other dates here and there to fill out their time away. We’re hoping this leads into some more long term commitments for the band and starts making ties with good people in high places.
We also watched Julie & Julia which inspired me yet again to continue with this blog and cooking and photography and it overwhelms me but it excites me at the same time.
